July 16th to August 30th - building small remote-controlled balloons - timelab & Verbeke

Most of the past year was spent setting up collaborations and long-term research projects. As rewarding as this has been, not much has actually been finished or built...

This summer Maximillian is coming over from Germany to assist in the realization of a number of small, spherical airships intended for the development of semi-autonomous navigation systems.

We'll be building the electronics at timelab, Ghent, and test the models at the Verbeke Foundation, Kemzeke. There is no detailed planning at this point, but we'll post updates on the website where you can find us.

August 31st - Kortrijk - Summerschool hoWest

Lieven will be teaching a workshop in DIY 3D-printing and building your own milling machines at the prototyping summerschool, school for industrial design hoWest, Kortrijk, Belgium.

Erasmus - Brussels- ongoing

The research projects with Erasmus school for engineering in Brussels will be continued in 2012. A test stand for wind generators is to be built.
Currently Lieven is involved in realizing a workshop/fablab there, to be finished by the end of September.

Sint-Lievens - Ghent - 2011-2012

This September a research project into the development of the load-bearing structure will be started at Sint-Lievens engineering school, Ghent.

see you soon,

This summer, the Aeromodeller2 9-meter-model is proudly presented at the 'Artour' biennale in La Louvière, Belgium. The expo in Musée Ianchelevici, titled "Machines Improbables" shows the views from several artists on transportation.

At Musée Ianchelevici, the 9-meter model is sharing an exhibition with Luc Schuiten, Panamarenko, Raphaël Opstaele, Frank Gryffroy en Didier Mahieu.

The museum is open: from Tuesday to Sunday, 14h to 18h.

The museum is open:
from Tuesday to Sunday, 14h to 18h.
The adress is:
Musée Ianchelevici - Place Communale 7100 La Louvière

The exhibition can be visited until the 28th of August.

A short Q&A on the La Louvière expo can be found here:

For the transport to the expo the large cage was set aside, and a smaller box was built. As the model is exhibited on the first floor, after passing a winding staircase, the expo was a test case for disassembling/reassembling the model.

The model can now be transported by 3rd party shipping inside a 60x180x280cm closed box and reassembled in 4 days.

Open Knowledge Conference - Berlin

Lieven was invited to the Open Knowledge Conference, Berlin, June 30th, to speak about his work on building open-source milling machines.
